Notes: My girlfriend and me spotted first the wolf we thought to be the leading female of the 8 Mile pack, 909F. She was down near the Gardner River and she stood still looking always in one direction like she would be waiting for something. Soon later a single wapiti female appeared over a hill and walked in a fast pace - head held high up - by her. No reaction from 909F. Instead she saw her ( what we believe to be) her partner 871M appearing over the same hill the elk cow came from. 871M then waited on top of the hill for 909F and together they disappeared up and over the hill out of sight. This photo shows her resting a second before following her partner up the hill. We circled for a while the road but did not see the wolves again. They were the only two wolves we saw and no sign of mange.
