Yellowstone Wolf: Tracking the Packs

Yellowstone's wolf packs—Specimen Ridge

The Specimen Ridge pack was observed for less than a full year in 2004. The three original members included a female disperser from the Druid Peak pack (known as “U-black” or 427F but never radio-collared), a male disperser from the Mollie’s pack (194M) and an unknown uncollared gray male. The female denned on Specimen Ridge in Little America and had 5 pups. In December of the same year, 194M died near Wrong Creek of unknown causes. Wolf 379M travelled with the group periodically, allowing for the pack to be tracked with telemetry but he joined the Mollie’s group near the end of 2004. The remaining uncollared pair and 2 pups remained together but were never seen again after the end of the year.
