Yellowstone Wolf: Tracking the Packs

Yellowstone's wolf packs—Everts

Many of the original Mount Everts pack members were related to the Leopold pack. In 2008 the Mount Everts pack formed, reproduced successfully, and established territory in an area previously occupied by the Leopold pack. The Leopold pack dissolved in the same year, partially due to the death of the alpha male who was killed by members of the newly formed Mount Everts pack. During the following year, the Mount Everts alpha male was radio-collared (685M) allowing easier tracking of the pack. Later in 2009 the alpha female and the entire litter of pups died. By fall 2009, every pack member showed signs of mange infection which may have been associated with the high pup mortality. With few pack members remaining, the pack officially dissolved in 2010.
